Fight the Virus Campaign

Mask Up | Stay Home | Wash Hands | Social Distance

The Poeh Cultural Center has been assisting the Pueblo of Pojoaque community in creating support initiatives to protect people from the spread of COVID-19.

On the Ground

Over a dozen billboards in the Pojoaque area and highway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe featured Fight the Virus messages. Over 30 yard signs posted in high traffic areas such as fast food restaurants, tribal offices, supermarket, gas stations, hotels and casinos. Eight large 3 foot by 8 foot banners installed at each commercial intersection. Promotional giveaways available at Drive-Thru events include, stickers, car magnets, buttons and shirts.

Tewa Pueblo Artist Masks

We wanted to encourage our Pueblo people to wear a mask by having their own Pueblo artists designs featured on the masks. Commissioned artists Erik Fender, Rose Simpson and Pilar Agoyo created a custom mask designs. Shawn Tafoya and Wesley Vigil allowed use of their pottery and embroidery designs we have in our museum collection.

1900 masks were in high demand and were distributed at a local Tribal US Census Drive-Thru event, Indian Health Service Flu Shot Drive-Thru event and community Veteran’s Day Drive-Thru event. In addition to public drive-thru distribution, masks were delivered to each of the 6 Tewa Pueblos.

Fight the Virus Masks

In addition to Tewa Artists Masks, the Pueblo of Pojoaque wanted Tribal Members and Essential Workers united in a common identity. Masks have additional options such as a pocket for a filter, adjustable straps and metal nose band. Frontline workers such as the Tribal Police, Community Health Representatives, Security Guards, Grocery Store Staff, Gas Station Staff and all Pojoaque Tribal Member families received one of the 2700 masks.
