Then & Now: POEH CULTURAL CENTER • An exhibition celebrating the last 35 years of the Poeh

April 5 @ 5:00 pm 7:00 pm

PUEBLO OF POJOAQUE, N.M. – The Poeh Cultural Center proudly announces the commemoration of its 35th anniversary with the unveiling of its latest exhibition and accompanying book, “Then and Now: POEH CULTURAL CENTER”. Drawing inspiration from its inaugural exhibition in 1991, the new display encapsulates three and a half decades of cultural preservation and Indigenous arts within the Pueblo of Pojoaque and surrounding Native Communities.

Since its establishment, the Poeh Cultural Center has stood as a beacon of cultural revitalization, embodying the resilience and spirit of the Tewa Pueblo peoples. The exhibition showcases a poignant blend of archival documents, artifacts from the center’s collections, and interviews with 18 esteemed community members. Through their voices and contributions, the remarkable history of the Poeh and its pivotal role in cultural resurgence comes to life.

“We are thrilled to mark this significant milestone in our journey with ‘Then and Now” said Karl Duncan, Executive Director at the Poeh Cultural Center. “This exhibition not only celebrates our past achievements but also reaffirms our commitment to preserving and promoting Indigenous arts and traditions.”

The Poeh Center stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of countless community members who have contributed their time, knowledge, and creativity over the years. From artists and elders to volunteers and cultural leaders, their collective efforts have shaped the center into a vibrant hub for learning, expression, and community engagement.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who have played a part in creating this living cultural treasure,” added Duncan. “Their commitment ensures that the stories, languages, and arts of our ancestors continue to thrive and inspire future generations.”

“Then and Now: POEH CULTURAL CENTER” invites visitors to embark on a profound exploration of the past, present, and future of the Poeh. As the center celebrates 35 years of cultural preservation, it reaffirms its commitment to serving as a custodian of Indigenous heritage and a catalyst for community empowerment.

The exhibition will celebrate with an opening reception on April 5, 2024, at 5:00pm. The exhibition will be open to the public from April 5, 2024, to July 5, 2024.
