Poeh Archives Intern Program
The Poeh Archives Intern program is a semester-long commitment of up to 20 hours per week with $2000 in funding a semester. Participants will assist the Archives Manager and other Poeh staff in foundational level activities related to stabilizing, describing, organizing, cataloging, and making available Poeh Archival materials. 5 positions in total will available through Spring and Summer of 2020, ending in August of 2020.
Among the experiences we offer Archives intern are:
- Work with the Archives Manager as well as other Poeh staff members
- Work with photographic materials, textual materials, oversize items, and/or audiovisual recordings, including oral histories, maps, etc.
- Assist in the digitization of archival materials collection items
- Assist in the establishment, organization, editing, and application of finding aids for the archives
- Assist with promoting the archives by creating social media posts or writing brief summaries of the work performed with photo-documentation
Specific duties may include:
- Physically processing and rehousing collections
- Inventorying materials
- Performing basic preservation tasks
- Writing finding aids or other catalog records
- Digitizing material; and creating metadata
Qualifications
- Undergraduate, graduate students, or recent graduates (within one year of graduation)
- Library and Information Science majors preferred, but open to Museum Studies students preferred, but open to Art History, Cultural Studies or Library and Information majors
- Experience in archives, libraries, or museums is a plus
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organizational skills
